Discussions are underway to develop a new set of global, UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The aim of this event is to explore the still existing divisions between Environment and Development agendas in the context of this SDG process. The Convergence framework, a development of an EU FP7 research project, will be presented and explored as one way to develop a more united approach to the SDGs in policy and action.

“Equity within Limits – and the Sustainable Development Goals". Workshop in Bristol: 9.30am – 5.00pm, 30th November, 2012 Venue: Hamilton House, 80 Stokes Croft, Bristol, Avon BS1 3QY

This workshop is for environmental and development organisations, local and national government agencies, business organisations, NGOs, trades unions, the sustainability science community and individuals. We are inviting organisations to talk about, or bring posters to show, how they have made links between Environment and Development concerns – and also across scales: local-global connections. We will present the idea of a Convergence Alliance to maintain a dialogue on the issues raised and to help individuals and organisations form links to bring environment and development work together. This workshop is designed to see what Convergence might offer to the process of creating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The World We Want beyond 2015. We are called upon to “help build a collective vision that will be used directly by the United Nations and World Leaders to plan a new development agenda launching in 2015, one that is based on the aspirations of all citizens!”, see http://www.worldwewant2015.org/. This process includes the creation of a High Level Panel, over 50 national and thematic consultations, community based discussion and a Global Online Conversation - all of which will contribute to a vision for The World We Want beyond 2015. President Yudhoyono of Indonesia, President Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia and Prime Minister Cameron of the United Kingdom were appointed in May, 2012 as co-chairs of the High Level Panel.

Beyond 2015 is a global campaign aiming to influence the creation of a post 2015 development framework that succeeds the current UN Millennium Development Goals. Beyond 2015 brings together over 380 civil society organisations in over 80 countries around the world, see http://www.beyond2015.org/.
